Without a formal education and wanting to get into photography, I showed up to my first photography job interview, holding my little 8x10 point and shoot made portfolio. I managed to acquire my first real big girl photography job....  Photographing cheerleading competitions, of all things.

My first day on location I was pretty much handed a pro camera, in manual mode and told, "Go forth.". Somehow, I managed to make cheer moms not wish death upon me and found my way traveling with the photography company.

My education started with contractor photographers who assisted me and answered my most basic  questions, never once making me feel small. Without these amazing photogs, I probably would have been off in a corner, being the crazy goth photographer (at a cheer competition) crying.

I was asked soon after I started to photograph a friends wedding...and like the newbie I was, I agreed. The couple were (and still are) very happy with their images. However, in hindsight, I wish I had been more educated. Frankly the blown out wedding dress in many of the images, drives me bonkers. Not to mention the other beginner mistakes... and stress.

A year or so later, after my initial shock of wedding craziness, and lack of desire to ever undertake that responsibility again. I was asked to second shoot my first wedding, it was during this wedding that I realized, I could do this without having a full on panic attack and put my growing knowledge to work!

I started slowly building up my wedding business from there, continuing to where I am now, ten years later. I am not perfect and I have learned quite a bit along the way, making my work what it is today.

I tend to attract clients who want their day captured as it happens, but still manage to capture art images along the way. I always want my clients be captured as they are and who they are! I love that I get to photograph real people in love, on one of the happiest days of their life. I adore happy people. - Jami Guess
